Project Details

Zurich

The Baugenossenschaft für neuzeitliches Wohnen (bgnzwo) is replacing the existing 86 apartments in the Zwischenbächen complex in Zurich from the 1950s with 157 modern apartments built to a high cooperative standard. The new residential complex will be groundbreaking in terms of economic efficiency, ecology, and social sustainability.

The overall concept, with four angled building structures, frees up a maximum of open space between the houses, which will be transformed into a varied, ecologically valuable “residential park” by the planned outdoor space design.

In addition to the architectural quality requirements, the requirements of the 2000-watt society are achieved through high savings in construction and operation. In terms of building technology, the aim is to achieve an optimum level of technology with maximum energy efficiency and sustainability as well as economical operation and maintenance. Heating for the estate is provided by the ewz long-distance heating network, while general electricity is covered by photovoltaic systems on the rooftops.

The new replacement building will be constructed in two phases.
