50 Years Caretta+Weidmann Baumanagement AG
The separation of responsibilities between architecture and construction management that the Carettas promoted 50 years ago has long since proven itself – and has also found imitators on a smaller scale. Thus, together with his sons, Bruno Caretta made a significant contribution to the development of a major cooperation model that has since become extremely popular under the term of “general planning”.
From 2009 to 2022, the Caretta family, such as Bruno and his two sons Mauro and Rafael managed the company successfully.
Unfortunately, company founder Bruno Caretta (75) and his son Rafael (47) passed away far too early in 2022. Due to these tragedies, Mauro Caretta decided to bring in an additional shareholder from outside the family. Today, Caretta Weidmann is wholly owned by Mauro Caretta and Felix Hegetschweiler, who also manages the operational business as CEO.
In recent years, Caretta Weidmann has been able to realize outstanding and important projects on behalf of clients, such as the Durchmesserlinie at Zurich main station (basic extension section 2 – station, basic extension passage and tunnel, without track construction), the Hilti Innovation Center in Schaan (FL), the Rolex newEvent in Biel, the Klosterinsel Rheinau and the Kaserne Basel. The Novartis Campus site in Basel, where numerous buildings have been developed and built in collaboration with renowned architects such as Peter Märkli, Atelier Krischanitz, Fumihiko Maki Architekten, Prof. Dr. V. Lampugnani, Álvaro Siza and Herzog & de Meuron, also represents an extraordinary centerpiece for Caretta Weidmann.
We are committed now and for the future with our mission to the 2040 climate targets and thus also to the quality of life of future generations. As a reliable partner, we want to make our contribution as a project developer, overall service provider, general planner and construction manager. In doing so, we are demonstrating our ambition to be a competent and responsible company throughout German-speaking Switzerland. Our culture is based on long-standing cooperation with clients and architectural studios supporting them in the realization of their ideas - and have been doing so for 50 years.
